I'm wondering if anyone has any pictures of the town of Glencoe around 1860-1865. In particular I'm looking for a picture of the old BATES Hotel/House that my great great grandpa Joseph William BATES owned and ran. Can anyone tell me anything about what it was like around that time or about what the town looked like. Also, I'm looking for anyone related to Joseph BATES, Mary Ann Scoville BATES, William Platt BATES or Cynthia Signorney Little BATES.

GREENWOOD
The GREENWOOD family has a tradition that in 1865 my great-great-great-uncle Barker GREENWOOD, born about 1837, book-keeper at Extwistle Mill,Lancashire, "went to America with two weeks wages from the Mill" - his wages or the payroll, we don't know. He doesn't appear in the UK Census after 1860. His father was James as was a brother, his grandfather and another brother were William, he had a nephew Samuel, and his mother was Alice [or Alas] Barker. I've found a Barker GREENWOOD in the 1880 US Federal Census farming in Winsted, Minnesota. He had four sons, Barker, William, James, and Samuel, all contemporary family names (By 1900 he'd moved to Forest Prairie, and that Census shows his immigation date as 1865. But he was born in 1842. Too many coincidences? Or too much wishful thinking in jumping to genealogical conclusions? Either way I'd like to know more about how a Lancashire GREENWOOD came to be in Minnesota, when and why he went there, and what life was like. Of course if I can help any researchers there with UK data I will be glad to do so. Please accept my thanks, not only in advance for some hopefully fascinating local information, but for all the work that has gone into a very interesting website.

PODSEDNIK, WRASPIR, DEDIC, KAKAC, STRAIT/STRAJT
PODSEDNIK, WRASPIR, DEDIC, KAKAC, STRAIT/STRAJT--Are you familiar with any of these Bohemian last names from Minnesota? My ggggrandparents were Ignatz & Catharina (Wraspir) Podsednik from Konikov and Paseky (respecitively), Bohemia. They had a daughter named Anna and she had two daughters in Konikov (house # 27). 1. Her first daughter was ANNA PODSEDNIK (b12/25/1860) in Konikov. She married Josef Dedic around 1883 and they had these children in Bohemia: Josephine, (twins) Josef & Anna, Frank and Richard Jaroslav. The Dedic family immigrated to America and settled in Foley, MN 1907-1912. My grandmother, Josephine (eldest of the family) married Karl Strait/Strajt and they were the last to immigrate to Foley. The Straits had the following children together: Charlie, Josephine, George, Bennie, Bertha, Frank, Joseph & Helen Ann...most of whom stayed in MN to raise their families. 2. Anna's second daughter, JOSEPHINE PODSEDNIK (b 10/1/1864)had a daughter named Anna. Then she married Tomas Kakac (from Saratoga, IA) and became his second wife. The eventually settled in Rice Lake, WI and had Frank, Helen, Libby and Josie together. Do you know anything about these families that you could share with me? I would be happy to share what I have in return. Thanks!
